Welcome to Islam
Introduction to the beautiful journey you've entered — a path of truth, peace, and purpose guided by the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah.
Warm Welcome
A Warm Welcome
Alhamdulillah — you have entered a family that spans every time and place. Your bond with Muslims worldwide is based on faith, not culture or ethnicity. This path brings peace, purpose, and a direct relationship with your Creator.
Allah says: “Indeed, this nation of yours is one nation, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.” (Qur’an 21:92)
What It Means to Be a Muslim
Meaning of “Muslim”
Being a Muslim means submitting to Allah alone and following the Sunnah of His final Messenger ﷺ. It is not a label or ethnicity — it is truth, devotion, and a way of life.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand people are safe.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Every action — from Salah to kindness — becomes worship when done sincerely for Allah.
The Meaning of the Shahadah
What the Shahadah Means
The Shahadah — La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah — means: “No deity is worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” It affirms exclusive worship for Allah and obedience to His Messenger ﷺ.
Conditions of “La ilaha illallah” (from Ahl al-Sunnah)
Encouragement & Du’a for New Muslims
A Fresh Start
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Islam wipes out what came before it.” (Sahih Muslim) Your record is clean — and every good you do now earns reward by Allah’s permission.
Du’a to Stay Firm
“Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us.” (Qur’an 3:8)
Allah says: “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah.” (Qur’an 39:53)
Understanding Tawheed (Oneness of Allah)
Tawheed: The Core of Islam
Tawheed means affirming Allah’s Oneness in all aspects and worshiping Him alone.
Allah says: “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him.” (Qur’an 17:23)
Three Aspects (explained by Ahl al-Sunnah)
Knowing the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The Final Messenger ﷺ
Muhammad ﷺ is the last Prophet — sent to all mankind — and a mercy to the worlds.
Allah says: “We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Qur’an 21:107) Allah says: “Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets.” (Qur’an 33:40)
Following him is the path to Allah’s pleasure and success in this life and the next.
Faith Foundation
Solidify your belief with simple, clear teachings from the Qur’an and the Sunnah — the foundation upon which your faith grows.
First Steps in Faith
What Is Islam?
Islam is outward submission to Allah through obedience: testifying, praying, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and performing Hajj for whoever is able. It is the religion Allah chose for us (Qur’an 5:3).
What Is Iman?
Iman (faith) is belief in the heart, speech on the tongue, and actions on the limbs. It increases with obedience and decreases with sin. “When His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith.” (Qur’an 8:2) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Iman has over seventy branches.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim)
What Is Ihsan?
To worship Allah as if you see Him; and if you do not see Him, know that He surely sees you. (Hadith Jibril – Sahih Muslim)
First Steps for a New Muslim
The 5 Pillars of Islam
“Islam Is Built on Five”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Islam is built upon five: the testimony that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and Hajj.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim)
The 6 Pillars of Iman
Hadith Jibril: The Pillars of Faith
The Prophet ﷺ explained that iman is to believe in: (Sahih Muslim)
This creed gives clarity, purpose, and firm hope, and it increases with knowledge and obedience.
Intro to the Qur’an
Allah’s Speech and Guidance
The Qur’an is the speech of Allah — perfect and preserved. “Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed We will guard it.” (Qur’an 15:9) “This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for the God‑conscious.” (Qur’an 2:2)
Etiquette and Approach
Understanding Allah’s Names and Attributes
Beautiful Names (Al‑Asma’ al‑Husna)
“To Allah belong the most beautiful Names, so call upon Him by them.” (Qur’an 7:180) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has ninety‑nine Names; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise.” (Sahih al‑Bukhari, Muslim) Examples: Ar‑Rahman (Most Merciful), Al‑Ghafur (All‑Forgiving), As‑Sami’ (All‑Hearing), Al‑‘Aleem (All‑Knowing).
Methodology
Love, Hope, and Fear
The Heart’s Balance
True worship balances love of Allah, hope in His mercy, and fear of His punishment. The Prophet ﷺ said: “If the believer knew what is with Allah of punishment … and if he knew what is with Allah of mercy …” (Sahih Muslim)
Practical Means
Make this du’a often: “O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.” (Tirmidhi, Hasan)
Your Daily Worship Essentials
Practical, easy steps to begin living Islam daily through worship, purification, and remembrance.
How to Pray Salah - Step by Step
Why Salah Matters
Salah is the believer’s daily connection with Allah — it prevents indecency and wrongdoing (Qur’an 29:45) and is prescribed at fixed times (Qur’an 4:103). The Prophet ﷺ said: “The first deed a person will be called to account for is the prayer.” (Tirmidhi, Hasan)
Key Components to Learn
Practical Tips
Purification (Wudu, Ghusl, Tayammum)
Why Purification?
“O you who believe, when you rise for prayer, wash your faces and your hands to the elbows, wipe over your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles…” (Qur’an 5:6). The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah does not accept prayer without purification.” (Sahih Muslim)
Wudu (Ablution)
Ghusl (Full Bath)
Tayammum (Dry Purification)
Purification prepares the body and heart to stand before Allah.

Islamic Manners and Etiquette
Character Is Faith
“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example.” (Qur’an 33:21) “And indeed, you are upon great character.” (Qur’an 68:4) The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character.” (Tirmidhi, Hasan)
Your manners are a continuous form of dawah.
Visiting the Masjid
Etiquette of the Masjid
“The mosques of Allah are only maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day…” (Qur’an 9:18) The Prophet ﷺ informed that walking to the masjid carries reward for every step (Bukhari, Muslim).
Ask for help confidently — the community is there to support you.
Understanding Halal and Haram
Clear Boundaries
“O mankind, eat from what is lawful and pure on the earth.” (Qur’an 2:168) Alcohol and gambling are prohibited (Qur’an 5:90). The Prophet ﷺ said: “The halal is clear and the haram is clear… whoever avoids the doubtful has protected his religion and honor.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Living halal brings barakah and peace of mind.
Muslim Holidays (Eid)
Only Two Eids
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah has replaced for you two better days (than the days of pre‑Islamic festivities): Eid al‑Fitr and Eid al‑Adha.” (Abu Dawud, Hasan)
Keep celebrations simple, grateful, and free from extravagance.
Maintaining Family and Friendships
Kindness with Wisdom
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and to parents, kindness.” (Qur’an 17:23) If they strive to make you associate partners with Allah, do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with kindness (Qur’an 31:15).
Your patience and good conduct may become the best dawah.
Avoiding Shirk and Innovation
Guard Your Tawheed
“Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.” (Qur’an 4:48) “If you were to associate [others with Allah], your deeds would surely be nullified.” (Qur’an 39:65) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance.” (Sahih Muslim) and “Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not from it — it is rejected.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Clinging to Qur’an and authentic Sunnah preserves your faith.
Taking Your Next Steps
Begin your journey with confidence, support, and sincere companionship for the sake of Allah.
Your First Week as a Muslim
Focus on Foundations
“So fear Allah as much as you are able.” (Qur’an 64:16) The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if small.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Connecting with Muslims
Seek Righteous Companionship
The Prophet ﷺ said: “A person is upon the religion of his close friend.” (Tirmidhi, Hasan Sahih)
Common Challenges & Solutions
Expect Challenges, Seek Ease
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Qur’an 94:5–6)
Find mentors and sound communities; patience + prayer = strength.
Planning Your Growth
Build a Learning Path
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whomever Allah wishes good for, He gives him understanding of the religion.” (Bukhari, Muslim) Verify teachers and materials; avoid innovations and sectarianism.
Staying Steadfast in Faith
Ask for Steadfastness
Iman rises and falls — renew it with Salah, Qur’an, dhikr, and righteous company. “Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ then remain steadfast — the angels descend upon them [saying], ‘Do not fear and do not grieve…’” (Qur’an 41:30) The Prophet ﷺ would say: “O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.” (Tirmidhi, Hasan)
Attend circles of knowledge; avoid environments that weaken iman.
Giving Dawah with Wisdom
Wisdom, Insight, and Sincerity
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good preaching.” (Qur’an 16:125) “Say: This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight — I and those who follow me.” (Qur’an 12:108) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Convey from me, even if a verse.” (Bukhari)
